Shigeyama Motohiko (茂山宗彦)

Motohiko SHIGEYAMA (June 4, 1975-) is a kyogen performer of Okura-ryu kyogenkata (comic actors of the Okura school). The first son of Shime SHIGEYAMA, the Second. His grandfather is Sensaku SHIGEYAMA, the Fourth. He studied under his father, grandfather and great grandfather (Sensaku SHIGEYAMA, the Third), and debuted on the performance of 'I-ro-ha' (ABC) at the age of four. He graduated from Higashiyama Junior High School/High School and Kyoto University of Arts and Design, Department of Art Studies and Performance.
His nickname is 'moppy.'

In 1994, he formed 'hanagata kyogen shonen tai' (the Young Star Kyogen Performers Boys Team) along with his cousin Shigeru SHIGEYAMA and his younger brother Ippei SHIGEYAMA, and they do activities toward young people. Since 2000, he has been co-hosting 'Kyogen for physical, mental and technical training (TOPPA!)' (kyogen study group formed by six young members of the Shigeyama acting family) along with Senzaburo SHIGEYAMA, Masakuni SHIGEYAMA, Ippei, Shigeru and Doji SHIGEYAMA. He got remarried in 2007. His hobby is fishing.

He became famous for acting the role of Kosojaku TSUREZURETEI in the Drama TV novel series by Japan Broadcasting Corporation 'Chiritotechin' (morning TV drama). His signature dialogue 'Sokonukeni…' was widely known. The posture he made when he said the dialogue was created by Shigeyama himself.
